Your Experience in Birth Starts with your Pineal Gland

Feb 16, 2024

The pineal gland is tiny but mighty. It is located deep in the center of your brain and is intrinsically connected to your womb.

The condition of your pineal gland determines
how you take in life. It moderates one’s mood and experiences. This is one reason why two people can have the exact same experience but they perceive it extremely different.

Calcification builds up on the pineal gland with age but also from aluminum, fluoride, EMF, and 5G (it is highly recommended to unplug your wifi at night).  It is rare for people to not have some sort of calcification. The pineal gland creates melatonin, mainly at night, in the absence of light (it is recommended to have a completely dark bedroom without any artificial light). Melatonin dictates our sleep patterns. Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant that supports the immune system and contributes to feelings of well-being and happiness, and even feelings of ecstasy.

In yogic traditions the pineal gland is referred to as the
seat of our soul, where all thoughts are formed. A clear, vibrant pineal gland helps us to see truth; truth within ourselves, truth in the people around us, and truth in the world because it takes you out of your thinking brain and brings you true wisdom.  The wisdom we carry in our cells and souls; not our brain wisdom.

This allows us to fully trust, connect to our intuition, and have clear discernment.

How does the pineal gland relate to labor and birth?

Birth starts in our head and goes down the body.  Our thoughts and mental stamina affect our labor and birth experience and outcome. With a calcified pineal gland you are unable to recognize your divinity, you feel disempowered, you are blocking the energy of our higher intuitive self. It can create irrational fears and keep you in a state of disconnection and separation.

A clear pineal gland allows information from your higher self and God to come through. Deep spiritual truths are attained, releasing the fear of our own shadow. It allows you to overcome the ego that controls the majority of our decisions.

There can be some difficult decisions to make during pregnancy, and during the labor and birth phase but the decision making don’t stop here. With parenthood come challenging decisions, a healthy pineal gland leaves you empowered to have clear discernment to make decisions that are for you and your child’s best interest. It helps you to
get out of your overthinking brain and to trust what the Divine is showing you and to live through your heart.

Other things you can do to clear and support your pineal gland:

  • Spend time in the sun every day. Morning sun is ideal
  • Sleep in complete darkness
  • Reduce blue light exposure  (wear blue light blocking glasses)
  • Meditate daily
  • Do yoga (forward folds and inversion help blood flow to the pineal gland)
  • Deep Diaphragmatic Breath- longer exhalation than inhalation (called Calm Breath in Hypnobirthing and used between contraction/surges during labor)
  • Apply pressure to the roof of your mouth with your tongue while meditating or doing breathwork
  • Exercise daily- walking outside is incredible
  • Candle gazing (see 7 Minute Breath work for the Pineal Gland below)
  • Sensory deprivation such as floating in a float tank
  • Eat or drink raw cacao
  • Take 5000- 15,000 IU of Vitamin D daily
  • Drink fresh carrot juice
  • Eat beets and drink beet juice
  • Take 600 mcg of Vitamin K2 (MK-7)
  • Reduce or eliminate refined sugar, flour, seed oils and other harmful vegetable oils
  • Heal leaky gut
  • Consume foods high in iodine such as seaweed, spinach and broccoli.  Adding a chunk of kombu seaweed to homemade soups and dried beans when cooking is an easy way to get iodine and other minerals

7 Minute Breath Exercise for the Pineal Gland

(Liana Shanti- Illuminations)

Sit comfortable in a seated position. Place a lit candle before you at a distance where you can gaze at the flame with an upright head and neck.

Press the tongue to the roof of the mouth to stimulate the pineal gland. Set the intention to remove calcification from the pineal gland and awaken to deeper spiritual truths. Visualize it bright, vibrant and clear.

Gaze intensely until your eyes water a bit and then let your eyelids almost close. Continue this for 7 minutes while your breath is a very long slow inhale and very long slow exhale.

A c-section is a major surgery that needs special care (it is not as simple as just 6 weeks of rest and not lifting anything heavier than your baby). A c-section is major abdominal surgery where an incision is made through seven different layers of tissue; skin, subcutaneous fat, fascia, muscle, peritoneum, uterus, amniotic sac. The fact that c-sections have become such a common practice does not minimize the profound surgery it is, both physically and emotionally.

Every physical symptom in the body is due to repressed emotion or trauma. Endometriosis is no different. This has to do with your femininity . Who are you in the world? Who are you here to be? Are you fulfilling your role? Are you suppressing gifts, creativity, your authentic self? Are you carrying unresolved grief and sorrow? Are you lacking self love, are you disappointed in yourself consciously or subconsciously? Do you have feelings of neglect, not worthy of love, feel discriminated against? This can be the result of the patriarchal society and a highly chauvinistic household .

Let me ask you something... Why is it normalized to spend $15,000, $20,000, $30,000, $100,000+ on a wedding? Many women go all out to physically prepare for their wedding day… go on a diet regime, hire a personal trainer, workout harder than ever, dye their hair, get nails and lashes… on top of all of the other expenses and preparations happening for months.

The release of hormones during labor and birth can be helpful in achieving a natural birth as well as a strong mother-child bond. These hormones can also slow labor down and lock up the cervix if the mother doesn't feel safe and she goes into fight, flight or freeze (fear).

WHAT ARE MICROBIOMES? Microbiomes are the collection of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other organisms that live in and on the body. We have about 10 million human cells in our bodies and about 100 trillion microbes. The balance of microbiomes varies throughout our body. Bacteria found in our mouth is different from the bacteria on our skin, which is different than in our intestines. WHY DOES GUT MICROBIOME MATTER? Healthy Gut Microbiomes are important for the immune system, protection against infection, increased fertility, reduce risk of pregnancy complications, regulate hormones, aid in nutrient absorption, digestion and bowel regulation, reduce inflammation, overall health and more. An imbalance can lead to disease and lifelong changes in immunity. A balance of microbes leads to optimal health. 80% of your immune health resides in the gut . PREGNANCY AND BIRTH AND GUT MICROBIOME During pregnancy and birth a mother’s gut health will have an impact on the child's health, not only immediately but into their adulthood. Gut microbiome is essential for central nervous system development and can control brain functions. In pregnant women, the gut microbiota has an effect on placenta health, pregnancy outcomes, the baby’s microbiome and immune function, fetal growth, development and survival of the baby. Preeclampsia seems to be on the rise within my immediate birth worker circle. Preeclampsia is a condition that can happen later in the pregnancy and can have serious complications. Disrupted gut microbiome can increase the chance of developing preeclampsia, as well as gestational diabetes and preterm birth. During pregnancy a mother can increase exposure to diverse healthy bacteria by taking a high quality probiotic supplement. This may improve gut diversity, may reduce gestational diabetes, and may reduce risk of allergies and eczema for the baby. Antibiotics should be avoided if possible. Antibiotics given to a mom during pregnancy or labor can affect the mix of microbes in the placenta, amniotic fluid, and vagina . This disrupted microbiome is inherited by the baby. Babies born by cesarean are not exposed to vaginal bacteria, increasing the risk of asthma, allergies, obesity, diabetes, and celiac disease. Studies comparing the microbiomes of vaginally born babies with those born via cesarean have shown differences in their gut bacteria as much as seven years after delivery. After a cesarean birth, instead of skin to skin contact with the parents the baby's first exposures are often to hospital bacteria and the microbiomes of hospital staff members. You can expose the baby to vaginal bacteria by doing a vaginal swab, although this is not as good as a vaginal birth, it can help. After birth, the baby should go straight onto the mother's body for skin to skin contact. Many hospitals are even starting to allow skin to skin while still in the operating room while closing up mom. Covering the baby with a blanket from home instead of a hospital blanket can also help. Formula feeding, even for a short-term, does change the bacteria. Breastfeeding sets the stage for the microbiome in your infant. Nearly one-third of good bacteria in a newborn’s intestinal tract comes directly from the mother’s milk, and an additional 10 percent comes from the skin on your breast your baby will receive from nursing. I hope this is reassuring if you did have to have a cesarean that you can still opt to breastfeed to give your baby healthy microbiomes. In addition to taking probiotics daily it is also important to stay hydrated with filtered water and electrolytes, as well as eating a whole food diet containing plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes, and consuming limited processed white sugar. Pure maple syrup, coconuts and dates can be used in place. Here are the links to three different high quality probiotics.
